Wilder Farms is a growing agricultural operation rooted in Door County, Wisconsin, connected to the Wilder brand of hospitality and lavender products. We're looking for a motivated, hands-on Farm Manager to lead day-to-day operations and help our farm thrive season after season.
Position Summary
The Farm Manager is responsible for the coordination and execution of farm operations throughout the summer season at Wilder Farms, running from late May through late August. This includes supervising farm staff, managing the harvesting schedule, overseeing equipment maintenance, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and to a high standard. The ideal candidate is a hard-working, self-motivated leader who thrives outdoors, is comfortable putting in long hours in the sun, and takes pride in getting things done.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Leadership & Scheduling
- Train and supervise seasonal and full-time farm employees
- Build and communicate weekly work schedules based on seasonal priorities
- Provide clear direction, feedback, and performance coaching to staff
- Foster a positive, safety-first work environment
Harvesting & Crop Management
- Execute and manage the summer harvesting schedule across all growing areas
- Monitor crop health and growth throughout the season
- Coordinate harvesting activities to maximize quality and yield
- Maintain accurate records of harvest yields and inputs
Project Management
- Plan, prioritize, and oversee summer farm projects from start to finish
- Coordinate with ownership and other departments on project goals and timelines
- Track project progress and proactively address delays or resource needs
Equipment & Facility Maintenance
- Oversee routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of all farm equipment
- Schedule and coordinate repairs with vendors or internal staff as needed
- Maintain farm facilities, outbuildings, irrigation systems, and fencing
- Keep organized records of maintenance schedules and equipment logs
Inventory & Supplies
- Source and procure supplies in coordination with ownership
- Track and minimize waste across farm operations
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all farm operations comply with applicable safety regulations
- Conduct regular safety briefings and maintain required documentation
- Respond promptly to equipment issues, weather events, or other farm emergencies
Qualifications
Required
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience
- Strong work ethic — this role requires long days, physical effort, and extended time working outdoors in the sun
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Proficiency operating tractors, ATVs, and standard farm equipment
- Valid driver's license; ability to operate farm vehicles safely
- Ability to work outdoors in varying Wisconsin summer weather conditions
- Comfortable with physically demanding work, including lifting 50+ lbs
Preferred
- Experience with lavender farming, specialty crops, or agritourism operations
- Familiarity with sustainable or organic farming practices
- Background in irrigation management, soil health, or integrated pest management
- Door County residency or familiarity with the local agricultural community
