As the Health & Human Services Deputy Director, you will work closely with the Director of Health and Human Services to guide strategic planning, oversee departmental operations, and manage budgets across multiple divisions. With direct supervision of key service areas, the role ensures programs are effectively delivered and aligned with community needs. Strong leadership, sound judgment, and clear communication—both written and verbal—are essential to support the department’s mission and drive continuous improvement.
As the Health and Human Services Deputy Director, you will be responsible for assisting the Director with the development and implementation of short- and long-range planning, operations, and budget within all divisions of the Department. The position provides direct oversight of programing and supervision to many service areas. You are responsible for providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.
Training, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Training and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, or related human services field. Bachelor's degree with significant administrative experience may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree.
- Five (5) or more years total work experience in human services or a closely related field.
- Four (4) or more years of progressively responsible management experience in budgeting, planning, and program management in a human services or closely related field.
- Other combinations of education, training, and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
- Current valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Knowledge of health and human services delivery systems.
- Knowledge of the principles of supervision and personnel management.
- Skills in writing professional proposals and reports, including but not limited to, grant requests.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to clearly communicate with and support staff to promote the development of teamwork within the department.
- Ability to collaborate and develop relationships with entities including other local, state and county government entities, as well as private agencies and organizations.
- Ability to interpret legal, medical and accounting terminology as it pertains to Health and Human Services.
- Knowledge of basic accounting practices, including budget preparation / management.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment and software used by the county.
- Ability to use tact and courtesy in maintaining an effective working relationship with department employees, county supervisors, county officials, community partners, contractors, and general public.
