POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: 

Direct and coordinate the procurement of materials, components, supplies, and services essential to the manufacturing operation.  Develop systems and procedures to improve the procurement of materials into the manufacturing facility. Understand and communicate corporate goals and manage procurement activities to support these goals.  

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for proactive communication between sales, production scheduling and suppliers to ensure clear understanding, agreement, and communication of all supply requirements.  Identify the internal customer’s needs, wants and service level requirements. 
  2. Work with Quality Assurance personnel in developing quality standards, problem solving, and communicating conditions that affect quality in purchasing.
  3. Maintain and build relationships with suppliers and ensure effective open communication. Act as a liaison between the Company and suppliers in all purchasing activities. 
  4. Coordinate operational strategies and tactics that support the procurement of materials and products from offshore sources in accordance with the Global Supply Chain goals of the company. Interface with the appropriate internal support teams, both domestically and in SIP, to identify supply chain process improvements and cost reduction initiatives.
  5. Develop a supplier certification program with key vendors: to include metrics, performance goals, and improvement initiatives
  6. Monitor key performance metrics including inventory turns, service levels, and supplier lead times. Work on policies to maintain adequate supplies of materials to meet customer delivery schedules while installing controls to minimize excess and obsolescence.
  7. Supervise Purchasing employees, performing related human resources functions as necessary.  Train, motivate, plan, and manage the work of department staff to maximize performance levels. 
  8. Meet purchasing financial standards by providing cost information; monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions.
  9. Ensure the proper storage of records, documents, and files of supplier activities in accordance with agency standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Appropriate leadership and communication skills along with computer knowledge.
  • Keep up with new developments in procurement procedures and practices.  Maintain affiliations with the appropriate professional organizations and hold a certification in Supply Chain Management from an accredited organization.
  • Comfortable working and thinking in a strategic environment and leading sourcing and cross functional teams. 
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of the company.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized with demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects or tasks.

EDUCATIONAL OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience
  • 3 plus years of leadership experience
