Manufacturing Engineer Manager

 

POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: 

Responsible for the overall management of the Manufacturing Engineering department.  The Hatco Manufacturing team is responsible for equipment investigation and introduction as well as continued programming of certain pieces of equipment (lasers, turrets, press brakes, panel benders, automated welding are examples).  The team will be part of issue investigations and resolutions related to:  safety, quality and productivity.  New part / product introduction is supported by the team during design reviews, prototype and pilot runs, and equipment introduction including identifying and outlining routing steps and times.  Find and initiate development opportunities for team to continually elevate team capabilities and cohesiveness.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead:  Lead and develop personnel and cross-functional teams as Hatco implements new equipment and processes, including methods, tooling and fixtures.  Supervise direct reports to ensure Hatco’s values are followed in an appropriate manner.  Monitor the progress of work to make sure alignment with implementation expectations and that team members are developing.  Create and conduct performance appraisals and determine training and growth opportunities for direct reports.
  2. Problem Resolution:  Lead problem resolution efforts by coordinating Continuous Process Improvement activities; along with Safety, Quality and First Pass Yield initiatives. Implement appropriate solutions that increase safety, enhance quality, reduce product costs and improve productivity.
  3. Equipment and/or Process Introduction:  Recommend and prepare economic justifications for capital equipment; assign purchase orders in accordance with company’s standards. Provide specifications, sourcing information, testing, safety and operator training on new manufacturing equipment and implement any new processes as required. Develop product and project cost estimates, project schedules, and coordinate the activities of the manufacturing engineering team and identify resource needs.
  4. New Technology / Continuous learning:  Stay abreast of the latest technologies to better enhance the production processes.  Continually look for lessening the need for manual labor.  Maintain personal skills by keeping abreast of developments in fabrication practices and managerial trends through continuing education, seminars and trade publications.
  5. Strategic Planning / New product introduction:  Participate in the strategic product planning process by identifying and defining product development/improvement projects to support business growth objectives.  Manage resources to effectively introduce new products into production.
  6. Travel:  Travel as necessary to conduct site visits for part and equipment suppliers; provide technical representation for Manufacturing to other departments, and outside entities, regarding technical issues as needed. Attend industry meetings and training programs as required.  Anticipated travel is less than 10%.
  7. Support:  Provide engineering support to other departments, Hatco owned entities, and other duties, as necessary or as requested by plant management.  Including monitoring and assignment of engineering change requests.
  8. Perform other related duties as requested by the Director of Manufacturing and other duties that are required to accomplish goals and missions of this position and the overall company.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated product development / project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of Demand Flow Technologies or Lean Manufacturing tools and   principles.
  • Effective communication (both verbal and written) with problem solving skills.
  • Travel as required to perform job functions.

EDUCATIONAL OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
  • Senior level engineering position; minimum ten years’ experience in manufacturing with emphasis on fabrication or similar field.
  • Requires a minimum five years of experience in managing capital budget projects, preferably in sheet metal fabrication.
