Senior Buyer

 

POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Buyer is responsible for implementing purchasing strategies, resolving complex tasks for key categories, managing suppliers, and sharing critical information. They must use creativity to solve issues, develop supplier relationships, and leverage volumes to reduce total ownership costs.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Category Management: Lead large spend categories that can be complex with limited supervision. Identify and select vendors to procure goods and services meeting price, quality, quantity, availability, and delivery dates needs. Develop and implement category-based procurement strategies (long-term agreements, VMI, Kanban replenishment agreements. etc.). Possess the ability to understand supply contracts, and terms and conditions.
  2. Negotiation & Cost Analysis: Create cost savings opportunities through competitive quoting and negotiation. Maintain cost control and drive cost reduction by identifying opportunities and collaborating with internal team members to create a plan of action. Maintain a record of cost reduction achievement.
  3. Inventory Management: Help coordinate the supply planning processes by utilizing analytical skills and supply chain expertise to meet inventory and service level goals. Have full understanding of re-order points and buffer stock methods.
  4. Market Research: Be the subject matter expert in key categories by abreast market by monitoring industry trends and developments. Implement counter measures and plans to react to the changes when appropriate. 
  5. Supplier Relationships: Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  6. Cross Functional Collaboration: Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving efficiency, profitability, and quality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Extensive knowledge of Hatco ERP system and material planning tools.
  • Ability to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong work ethic with a positive "can-do" attitude and one who takes pride in the quality of their work.
  • Professional verbal and written communications skills and ability to collaborate effectively with team members and peers
  • Possess strong problem solving and time management skills.
  • Willingness to participate in training and achieve certifications relevant to the job description that will improve performance.  APICS certification preferred.

EDUCATIONAL OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
